Many people question if there is any real value in studying the Bible. The Bible is the most transformative and inspirational book in human history. Studying the Bible has the power to completely transform your life. Today I want to give you three vital reasons to study the Bible:

1. The Bible builds our relationship with God. There is no way you can get to know someone without spending time with them. We cannot get to know God and have a relationship with him without spending time in his Word. Daily Bible study maintains our connection with God. Just like a phone needs to be connected to a power source in order to function, we need to be connected to God in order to function. The Bible reminds us of God’s promises, his character and our dependence on him.

2. The Bible gives us clarity. Psalm 119:105 says “ Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path (CSB).” The Bible sheds light on any darkness in our lives. Just like natural light illuminates a room, the Word of God illuminates our hearts and lives. His light provides us with direction and allows us to see situations and circumstances from his perspective. So often we try to rely on our own wisdom, insight and advice from others. However, when we do this, we often go off course and find ourselves traveling on a path that God never intended for us to be on. Studying the Word of God gives us the insight that we need. If you need insight on finances, it’s in the Word. If you need insight on love, it’s in the Word. If you need insight on guilt, shame, or fear, it’s all in the Word of God. Studying the Bible provides us with critical insight about life that we wouldn’t otherwise have.

3. The Bible gives us a living hope. When life knocks us down, the Bible gives us hope that we can make it through. The Bible gives us the confidence necessary to keep moving forward in faith. Not because of our abilities, but because we hope and trust in God’s ability to turn our situation around. The Bible gives those who read it the hope and assurance of knowing that we have the victory despite whatever circumstances we may face. I Peter 1:3 says that “We have a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”. It is this hope that allows us to remain hopeful in a hopeless world.

Stay rooted in the Word of God by studying the Word of God each day. Studying the Word of God will serve as a key building block in your spiritual development. The Word of God is one of the most critical components of your spiritual growth. In fact, Revelation 1:3 suggests that we are blessed from just reading the Word of God. Studying the Word of God isn’t a mindless activity; it is an activity that activates your mind and positions you to receive blessings from God.

Verse of the Week

"For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the ideas and thoughts of the heart. "

Hebrews 4:12
