Distant From God?

There are times in life where it seems that God is far away. You have been waiting on things to manifest and it just seems like it is never going to happen. You get frustrated and distance between you and God occurs. It's not intentional, but it just happens. You love God and you are grateful for all that He has done for you, but something is off. Your relationship is not the same. Let’s examine a few reasons why you may be feeling distant from God:

1. Your prayer life is inconsistent. Prayer is how we communicate with God and when our prayer life is inconsistent, God will seem distant.

2. There is unconfessed sin in your life that needs to be removed. Sin separates us from God. Isaiah 59:2 says “But your iniquities have built barriers between you and your God, and your sins have made Him hide His face from you so that He does not listen (HCSB)”.

3. You are not reading the Bible consistently. The Word of God is how God speaks to us and when we are not reading the Word consistently, God will seem distant.

If you are feeling distant from God, be sure to examine your prayer life. Ask yourself, “Have I been in regular communication with God or have I been making my own decisions"? Start spending time with God in prayer. James 4:8a says “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you (HCSB)”. Next, make sure that you remove anything that is creating distance between you and God. Remove idols(anything that you place above God), distractions and sin. This may seem incredibly difficult to do, but the good news is that you don’t have to do it on your own! The Holy Spirt will help you resist and overcome sin and live victoriously (1 Corinthians 10:13). You also must examine if you have been reading the Word of God every day.  If not, you will undoubtedly feel distant from God. Spend some time in his Word to remove the distance. Finally, spend time in worship. Worship allows us to connect to the power and presence of God. We experience God's love, joy and peace in his presence. Psalm 16:11 says "You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at you right hand are pleasures forevermore"(ESV). So, turn your worship music on. Blast it! Get in the presence of God and get back close to God.

God never departs from us, we depart from Him. Know that God is always with us. Even when we can't see him or feel him, He is always there. He promised to never leave us nor forsake us.
