Are you living in God’s peace? One of the greatest gifts that God has given us is His peace. Every single day we can choose to live in His peace or live in a cycle of worry, fear and stress. The absolute best place to find God’s peace is in His word and in His presence. When we dedicate time to spend in His presence and Word, we are building trust with God. It can be difficult to trust someone you don’t know, right? Our church recently did a community service outreach. My husband drove us to the church to attend the event. I found myself comfortably settled in the passenger seat, trusting his driving skills and instincts without a second thought. Over the years of our marriage, I have come to know him inside and out. I understand his habits, reactions, and approach to various situations. This familiarity has created a deep sense of trust in his abilities, which allowed me to relax and enjoy the car ride without any fear or apprehension. Upon our arrival at the church, a kind minister offered to drive the church van to transport us volunters downtown to complete the community service outreach. I didn't know the minister and as we piled into the van and he took the wheel, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease and uncertainty. The unfamiliarity of the situation, coupled with my lack of knowledge about the minister's driving style and habits, left me feeling a little anxious and on the edge of my seat throughout the ride.
Just as I trust my husband's driving because I know him well, the same principle applies to our relationship with God. When we take the time to truly know and understand God through prayer, studying His Word, and experiencing His presence in our lives, our trust in Him deepens and grows. Just like the familiarity and intimate knowledge I have of my husband's character and abilities breeds trust, knowing God intimately allows us to trust in His sovereignty, faithfulness, and goodness.
The more we know God and experience His faithfulness and presence, the more our trust in Him grows. As a result, we experience more peace.
Exodus 33:14 says that “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest”. As the Israelites prepared to embark on their journey through the wilderness towards the promised land, Moses understood the gravity of the task before him. He recognized the necessity of God's presence in guiding and leading the nation. Moses refused to move without the assurance of the Lord by his side. God reassured Moses with the promise of His presence and rest. We too can find comfort in the knowledge that the Lord of peace is with us each step of the way. So let's make a decision to rest in God’s peace. You will find His peace when you spend time in His presence.
Meditation Verse:
"You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you". Isaiah 26:3 ESV
