God is Our Help

Writer: Brittany HollisBrittany Hollis

I believe we all can admit that there have been times when we all need help. For instance, have you ever had a flat tire and realized you didn't have a jack? Or have you ever ran out of gas and needed someone to take you to the gas station? Perhaps you needed a little help to move a large item in your home. Sometimes, we really don't like to admit that we need help. This could be because of the trauma from past experiences or fear of the unknown. Maybe you asked for help and somebody did not provide the help you needed. We often project this disappointment on to everyone, including God.

Psalm 46:1 is one my favorite verses. This verse teaches you and I that God is a very present help in times of trouble. This is good news for us because this verse reassures us that God is there for us when we need him the most. What does God's help look like?

  • For Shamgar, God's help allowed him to use an oxgoad (farming tool) to defeat 600 Philistines ( Judges 3:31).

  • For Daniel, God's help allowed him to survive the lions den (Daniel 6:22).

  • For Jesus, God's help allowed him him to defeat death (Romans 8:11).

If Jesus in his humanity needed God's help, how much more do we need it? God is willing, accessible, and available to provide us with the help we need. All we have to do is ask.

As always, stay rooted in God.

Verse of the Week:

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1
