Have you ever been driving and changed into the other lane without looking to see if a car was coming and nothing happened to you? This is because God was protecting you. God being our shield means that He protects us from dangers seen and unseen. God being our shield protects us from both spiritual and physical harm.
In Job chapter one, we are invited in on a conversation between God and Satan. They are discussing a man named Job. In Job 1:10, Satan literally says to God that God has a hedge of protection around him. This teaches us that when we obey God, there is literally a hedge of protection that encompasses us that cannot be penetrated without God's permission. God being our shield is a prominent theme throughout the biblical narrative:
God shielded David from the wrath of King Saul when he desired to kill him (1 Samuel 19:1).
God shielded Jacob from Esau after he tricked him out of his birthright and desired to kill him (Genesis 27:42).
God shielded the children of Israel from the hands of Pharaoh by parting the Red Sea when Pharaoh desired to bring them back into captivity (Exodus 14:9).
We have a God who cares and provides us with a refuge. Psalms 91:1 says ,"God will be our fortress". A fortress provides protection and does not allow anything or anyone to infiltrate it. What an amazing God we serve that specializes in providing protection against the many plots, fiery darts, and schemes of the enemy. As always, stay rooted in God.
Verse of the week:
You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word.
Psalm 119:114
This is a good word.
Thank you Lord for your protection!
