Have you ever been disappointed? I know that I sure have. I have had relationships to disappointment me. I have had jobs that disappointed me and if I could be honest, I felt at one point in my life that God had disappointed me. Disappointment is a result of our expectations falling short of our reality. I want to share with you how you can move forward past disappointment. Let me share with you the ABC’s of overcoming disappointment:

THE ABC's of Overcoming Disappointment

A-Admit/Acknowledge that you are disappointed. God can’t heal what we don’t reveal to him. That’s a huge reason why some of us cant heal, because we won’t admit that we are hurt. In Ruth 1:20-21, we find a widow by the name of Naomi. There had been a famine in the land and she lost her husband and her two sons. She lost everything, so she thought. Naomi did something in verse 21 that some of us fail to do; she expressed her disappointment. She said the Lord had delt very bitterly with her. She was so hurt and disappointed she said to not even call her Naomi any longer. She was hurt and she acknowledged it. The acknowledgement was the first step to her grieving. Her grieving led to her eventual breakthrough and her breakthrough led to her blessing. Disappointment can do one of two things. It can push us away from God or it can push us towards him. When we decide to take our disappointment to God and not our friends, Facebook, Instagram, or anything else, God meets us where we are and takes that disappointment. James 4:8 says to draw near to God and he draws near to us.

B-Believe that there is purpose in your disappointment. You have two choices; You can dwell and focus on the bad or you can focus on Christ and his plan for your life. God often uses our pain and disappointment to build us and ultimately push us into our purpose. His plan for your life is good (Romans 5:3-5).

C-Chose to align your heart and will to his will. Take time to listen to hear the voice of God. Trust God's timing. Sometimes we are disappointed because our timetables don’t line up with God's timetable. Isiah 55:8-9 says “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways declares the Lord. Proverbs 16:9 says "a mans heart plans his course but the Lord determines his steps".

Its time to move forward. Allow God to use your story for his glory (Job 42:12). God may very well be using your disappointment to restart, rebrand or redefine your life. So, acknowledge your disappointment, believe that your disappointment has a purpose and chose to align your will to his will. God has you in the palm of his hand.
