Struggling with Motivation

Let me keep it all the way real! I have been struggling big time with finding motivation. I have been dealing with change and grief and my motivation has been missing. Have you bee here before? Are you dealing with this now? The truth of the matter is that motivation can be a tricky thing. Motivation in our own lives often comes and goes. We tend to have periods of high motivation and low motivation. The key is keep your vision and mission in front of you, rely on discipline over motivation, and to maximize those periods of high motivation and minimize those periods of low motivation. Here a few keys to getting motivated and staying motivated:

1) Pray for motivation. This is what Jesus did. The Bible records in Mark 1:35 that Jesus would get up early in the morning to pray. I believe this is where His motivation came from. When you are connected to the source of motivation, which is Christ, He will provide you with exactly what you need.

2)Read the Word of the God daily. The Bible records in 2 Timothy 3:16 that "all scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness". The Bible offers inspiration anytime you need it, we just have to be disciplined enough to go to the source.

3) Keep the bigger picture in mind. The Bible records in John 4:34, "Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work". When you have a clear understanding of your purpose, it inspires you to keep going even when you don’t feel like going.

4) Rely on discipline over motivation. Motivation comes and goes. Motivation relies on how you feel. Discipline, on the other hand will make you work towards your vision and goals even when you don't feel like it. Motivation will give you the start and discipline will keep you going. Discipline is essentially the same as self-control. Self-Control is named as a fruit of the Spirt (Galatians 5:22-23). The good thing about self-control is that this is not something that you have to work at on your own. You have the help of the Holy Spirt. In fact, 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV) says that, "God did not give us a Spirit of timidity, but a Spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline".

Ultimately, motivation is an intentional decision to pursue your God-given purpose.  When we learn where to look, we will find the motivation that we need.  Continue to stay rooted in God!

Meditation Verse:

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV
