The thing about potential is that everyone has it but very few people realize their potential. Some people are great writers but never write a book or publish articles. Others are great orators but never speak in front of a crowd or become motivational speakers or use their voice to encourage others. Why is it that some people fail to reach their potential?
Here are three reasons:
1) They believe lies instead of the truth. The enemy will relentlessly plant seeds of doubt and discouragement in your mind. In fact, the Bible records that the devil roams around as a roaring lion seeking whom he can devour ( 1 Peter 5:8). The only voice that matters is God's voice and He says all things are possible to him who believes ( Mark 10:27).
2) They allow fear to overtake their faith. It is scary to try something new and step outside your comfort zone. Naturally, uncertainty breeds fear, but that is where faith comes in. The Bible teaches us that there is no fear in love and that perfect love casts out fear ( 1 John 4:18). This means that when we recognize how much God loves us, we can have faith that He has our best interest at heart. This allows us to move forward in faith because we know we have a God who loves us more than we love ourselves.
3) They give up too soon. Adversity is a part of life but oftentimes we allow adversity to stifle or stagnant us. The truth of the matter is that reaching our potential is difficult and involves setbacks and heartache, but those things only prepare us for where God is taking us. Adversity builds endurance and character that equips us for our destiny. The Bible teaches us to not get weary in our well-doing because if we don't give up, we will reap the harvest of the seeds we have sown (Galatians 6:9). The same is true for our potential. If we keep pushing towards our goals, we will eventually get there if we don't give up.
What is the thing that God has gifted you to do? Are you striving towards what God has gifted you to do? Are you living up to your potential? Be bold and be confident and go after goals with faith and fearlessness! As always, stay rooted.
Meditation Verse:
"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us"
