Waiting on God

Writer: Brittany HollisBrittany Hollis
Truth be told, we don't like to wait. We love fast food, InstaPots and microwaves because they get us our food fast! We like Amazon Prime because of the quickness of their delivery. Unfortunately this carries over into our relationship with God. We pray once and we want it to happen instantaneously! If it does not happen when we feel it should, we lose patience and hope. This is dangerous! Here are three dangers of not waiting on God:

1. When you don't wait on God, you get ahead of God.
Abraham and Sarah did this when God promised they would have a child, but instead of waiting patiently, Sarah decided to have Abraham sleep with Hagar (Genesis 16:1-16). This led to conflict, confusion and chaos!
2. When you don't wait on God, you miss the lesson God is trying teach you.
Often times God has us in a waiting season because He is developing something in us. When we fail to wait on God, we often have to repeat the lesson. The book of Judges is filled with stories of the Children of Israel repeating lessons. They would turn away from God, for idols and then cry out to God for deliverance; all because they failed to wait on him.
3. When you don't wait on God, you delay your blessing.
Often times we make our path much longer than it was intended to be. When we try to cut corners, it ends up taking longer than it would if we would have followed God's path in the first place. We know God's path, but God's path is most often not the most pleasurable path. We lose patience and try a different route, only to learn the lesson the hard way and that is that God's way is always the best way. God is a God of Purpose! This means He does not waste anything! This should give us the confidence that our waiting is not in vain, but for His divine purpose for our lives. When we embrace that perspective, we can be in agreement with the songwriter who said "I Don't Mind Waiting on the Lord". As always, stay rooted in God!
Verse of the week

"but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint".

Isaiah 40:31 ESV
